Neil McKay Murder
Neil McKay was strangled to death on his farm, Skietdrif in Winterton, KwaZulu Natal on Friday the 9th of April, 2021.
His body was discovered by his mother the following morning when she arrived to visit Neil. On her arrival she was told by the housekeeper who was working in the home that Neil was still asleep in his room. Finding this strange she went in to check on Neil only to discover him sitting in his wheelchair with his hands bound.
After raising the alarm, emergency services were dispatched along with the Winterton Farm Association who activated the Specialised Victim Support – 72-Hour Collaboration Response Plan
Neil was declared deceased and further investigation revealed that he had been strangled.
What adds to the tragedy of this case is that Neil was shot during a farm invasion when he was just +-26 years old, leaving him paralised and wheelchair bound. His father who has since passed on and mother had stood by him, continuing with farming and had made it possible for Neil to farm from his wheelchair, itself a remarkable story. In the same reflection as his parents efforts, Neil was known to be a gentle and friendly man of peace. He refused to carry or even have a gun, despite living alone on a farm.
